Iphone, Android, Treo Killer
Every new smartphone that comes out is being dubbed the next iphone killer. I remember when Treo was THE smartphone to have, and every new device was a Treo-killer. Well it turns out that the real Treo Killer was the Treo itself. Instead of trying to evolve and add new features, Palm tried to stick with the status-quo. They wanted people to stick with them because their OS was familiar. But eventually the OS just looked DATED compared to Windows Mobile.
Fast-forward 5 years. Treo is dead. Iphone and Android have together changed the game. There's fierce competition to gain marketshare in the smartphone arena. Every new device that comes out is dubbed the new Iphone killer. Or the new Android Killer.
I'm happy that android is giving Apple a run for it's money. With Android hot on it's heels, Apple can't afford to sit around. Competition breeds better products. Apple was vehement against allowing wifi tethering, and including multi-tasking. With Android attacking these weaknesses relentlesessly, Apple eventually brought out 'apple-esque' response. They brought out tethering through bluetooth (I'm sure so you couldn't tether your ipad to an iPhone), as well as Apple-semi-multitasking. Without Android on the case as such a strong competitor, I'm sure neither of those features would be available yet.
