7" Screen devices arrive. More practical portability.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab, The new color Nook. These devices are attacking the (so far) unchallenged 7" screen Niche. The Galaxy tab is a smart-pad while the new nook is Barnes and Noble's newest ereader.

The problem with the 10" screen iPad is I can't really carry it anywhere without a bag in-tow. It is great for me compared to bringing a laptop or netbook. I love how you can just fire it up in an instant. But having to bring it around in a bag is a big bummer.

I'm not sure how pocketable the 7" screen devices are. I only partially tried shoving the demo units at the stores into my jacket-inside-pockets, it barely fit. I was a little paranoid the store-keepers would think I was trying to run off with the devices. It's basically like trying to stick 3 iphones in your pocket. They do seem to offer practical portability while giving a good benefit over staring at your smallish ipad or android screen. The true test will be trying to shove it in my jean's pocket when I really get my hands on one.

I'll cover specific functionality between the Ipad and the Galaxy tab in a future post. With Ipad getting the 4.2 multi-tasking IOS update and with a flash-enabled Skyfire Browser around the corner, they are soon to be on even terms in terms of function. The Tab has 2 cameras, but it seems like the addition of cameras in the next ipad is likely in it's next release.
