My wife dropped her Iphone 4 while getting out of the car. It had the bumper case on it, and still look what happened. The phone seemed to hit the pavement near the corner where it was slightly protected, but it still wasn't enough.
We were prepared for the worst. Looking it up online showed us that accidental damage isn't covered by Applecare or any other warranties. A replacement looked like it would be $199.00, but I suppose that's better then paying retail $699.00 for a replacement phone.
We made an appointment at our local Apple Store. My wife received sympathy from random bystanders who happenned to see the cracked phone screen. Lucky for us, it was the back pane of glass that was broken and only costed $29 to replace. If it had been the front panel it probably would have been the $200 since the LCD usually gets damaged along with a cracked front panel.
The phone was all fixed up within 20 minutes and my wife was happy again.
The takeaway of this story is be careful with your iphone 4 even if you have the bumper case on.
