A class-action suit, You-tube videos, Apple-hating blogs, Apple-fanboi responses, a Consumer-Reports thumbs-down. These negative blips and blurbs all came together to cause a social-media storm which Steve Jobs had to finally respond to.
In a press conference today, Steve Jobs announced that Apple will be providing free Iphone 4 bumper-cases to people who have bought their Iphone through September 30. Refunds will be given out to people who have went ahead and bought a bumper case on their own. Those who don't like their phones can get a full refund.
Although I personally love the Iphone 4 and would buy it again in spite of its problems, this is a nice victory for the consumer. This announcement proves growing power of social-media sites in the market-place. Consumers have a growing voice aside from just voting with their purchasing-dollars.
I suppose from now on it's a case of "You know the problems with this phone, buy at your own risk" and "buyer-beware".
