For my birthday, I got an Ipad this year. I was thinking that it was such a great upgrade over my Iphone 3g, that I wouldn’t need to get an Iphone4. I thought I could be strong with my trusty-old, weak-batteried, screen-stuttering iphone 3g while my wife danced around with her new Iphone4... Boy, was I wrong.
The Iphone is a great upgrade by Apple, sure it’s not perfect, but it does cover up some of past deficiencies of the iphone. It definitely puts it on par with most of the features available on the newer phones that have come to market.
quick list of pros
- Video is in HD, rivaling even the flip digital recorders.
- Flash (for pictures). It’s a small, but bright LED light. Also doubles as a good emergency flashlight.
- 5mp camera with 5x zoom and tap-focus. The quality has been shown to be above average compared to other camera phones.
- Runs decently with ios4 (operating system update), nice speed with better battery life then the 3g and older phones. No flickering icons when swiping back and forth like my old 3g.
- The retina display is very crisp
quick list of cons
- Death-grip: some people’s hands have been shown to interfere with the cellular signal. So holding the phone in a certain way lowers reception. (update, apple offers free bumpers as a fix)
- Cheek-dialing/dropping calls: the proximity sensor has been moved to a place above the speaker. So a person’s cheek will sometimes randomly dial or drop calls instead of turning off the phone when it’s near their ear.
- Still no Adobe Flash.
- Forced to use "AT&T" as the cellular carrier in the US.
The key with the new Iphone is that the user has to alter their behavior a bit in order to take full-advantage of the phone. They have to hold the phone a certain way, make calls a certain way, surf the internet sans-adobe-flash, stick with AT&T, etc. But the phone is still so nice and functional that it’s worth going through those minor annoyances in order to use it. Sure I sound like an Apple-Fanboy, but I am really just a fan of good products.
