Droid X is here, but if your ordering just now... then Droid X is really not till July 23. The Vibrant 4.3 Edge to Edge Display with 8gb of internal memory, a 16mb Micro SD card "PRE-installed" , and 1GHz processor is just too hard to pass up for some gadget geeks alike.
Many reports that the Droid X is sold out on its first day. A not so great news to the many, as it is an alternative to the popular iphone or the HTC Evo 4g. And to add more troubling news, there are many reports that the Droid X comes with the Efuse technology built in the phone.
What is this "Efuse Technology"?
According to Computerworld.com, forum posters from MyDroidworld.com suggested that the technology within the Droid X will "blow the fuse" and fail to boot the phone if it "DETECTS" a change in the system's firmware.
Who is affected by this?
Average users will not be affected by this. Advance users who likes to customize the way their phone, or remove restrictions or limitations set by the manufacturers or carriers might be affected.
Will the Efuse Technology really blow up my phone?
Mr. Seven Bird says most likely "nah"
What is Motorola saying about the efuse?
Endgadet reports that Motorola's purpose in adding the efuse technology to the Droid X is for the benefit of the users. Ensuring that we have the latest and greatest tested versions of the software on the phone.
"The Droid X and a majority of Android consumer devices on the market today have a secured bootloader. In reference specifically to eFuse, the technology is not loaded with the purpose of preventing a consumer device from functioning, but rather ensuring for the user that the device only runs on updated and tested versions of software.
If a device attempts to boot with unapproved software, it will go into recovery mode and can re-boot once approved software is re-installed. Checking for a valid software configuration is a common practice within the industry to protect the user against potential malicious software threats."
